Delaware Boards & Commissions: Kathy Carpenter

Congratulations to Sussex Pride Board Member Kathy Carpenter. Kathy has been appointed to serve on the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association, and will serve on the Rules Committee.

The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association is an organization that oversees and regulates interscholastic athletics in the US State of Delaware. The Board consists of a total 22 voting members that include educational professionals and at six members from the public (2 from each county).

A former high school athlete, Kathy lettered in four sports. She was captain of four teams at Cape Henlopen High School and one at Indian River. Kathy also was captain of the Delaware State University wrestling team . As a former athlete and the first transgender individual to serve as a member of the association, she will undoubtedly bring a much needed voice to the discussion on transgender students participating in sports. We are excited to use her expertise and experience to serve the state of Delaware.

Kathy Carpenter Brown is the founder of Transliance, a non-profit group dedicated to helping transgender people network, learn, grow, and come together socially in safe, trans friendly venues.  Kathy is also President of Brown’s Real Estate Services Incorporated.

A long time transgender advocate in Delaware, Kathy has donated historical items that are now part of the permanent collection of the The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs. These items are currently on display at the Zwaanendale Museum in Lewes, Delaware.
