Volunteers are needed for the annual Point In Time Survey (PIT). The PIT survey is a federally mandated event that aims to identify the number of people experiencing homelessness. The survey collects data on how many people are experiencing unsheltered or sheltered homelessness and what factors contributed to their current situation. The survey is particularly important for marginalized groups such as LGBTQ youth, who are disproportionately affected by homelessness due to a range of factors including family rejection, discrimination, and lack of access to support networks.

On a single night each year the Delaware Continuum of Care conducts a Point in Time (PIT) count of people experiencing homelessness, with the assistance of community volunteers and partners.

The PIT survey provides crucial data on the prevalence of homelessness among LGBTQ youth. This data is used to determine funding allocations for programs that aim to prevent and intervene in youth homelessness. Without this data, the issue of LGBTQ youth homelessness may go unnoticed and underfunded, perpetuating the cycle of homelessness. Moreover, the PIT survey also gathers important demographic information that can be used to better understand the experiences of homeless LGBTQ youth. This information can be used to design effective interventions and programs that address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness.
