Out Survey: Preliminary Results

OUT: The Community Survey is a large-scale, community-led research initiative designed to capture up-to-date data on the lives, health, and safety of LGBTQIA+ people sponsored by The Cancer Network (which previously ran the National Cancer Survey) with support from Tyler Clementi Foundation.

The survey was launched as an urgent response to a “historic threat” to LGBTQIA+ data visibility, as we have watched many federal research projects and datasets focusing on sexual orientation and gender identity cancelled or altered.

Sussex Pride is proud to have supported this initiative. While we are waiting for the final numbers, as of mid-December, over LGBTQ+ 50 Delawareans completed this survey using our unique survey URL.

Preliminary results document a significant change in the health & well-being of LGBTQ+ people.

The survey will still be open for a few more days, so depending on when you read this you may still be able to participate.

TAKE THE SURVEY NOW

Please note: While we are proud to support research, we cannot accomodate all research requests, and there are many factors taken into consideration. Here are some factors we take into consideration.

  • Is the researcher a known and trusted LGBTQ+ community member or ally to the LGBTQ+ Community?
  • Does the researcher have a plan for disseminating results of the research to participants? Has this happened in the past?
  • Is the Institutional Review Board (IRB) information clearly indicated on outreach materials?
  • Is there an incentive for trial participants?
  • Is there an incentive for community partners?
  • Does the survey pose any risks to trial participants, including mental health distress or suicidal ideation? Is there a clear plan to address these risks?
  • Is there a community advisory board or other clear plan for meaningful community input?
