National Coming Out Day is October 11th, but this event will take place earlier, on Friday October 9th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Seaford Planned Parenthood Office. National Coming Out Day (NCOD) acts as the LGBTQ+ community’s annual celebration of radical authenticity, grounded in the belief that visibility is the most potent weapon against prejudice. Founded in 1988 to mark the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, the day transforms what can be a high-stakes personal milestone into a collective act of pride and power. The core philosophy is simple yet transformative: it is much harder for homophobia and transphobia to thrive when people realize their siblings, neighbors, and coworkers are part of the community. While coming out remains a deeply individual journey—and one that certainly doesn’t have a mandatory deadline—NCOD serves as a supportive reminder that living out loud isn’t just a personal win; it’s a vital contribution toward a world where being yourself is the standard, not the exception.
