Sussex Pride  will hold a vigil to honor the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th.   The event takes place at 6:30PM  at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Southern Delaware.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.  The event includes a reading of the names of transgender and nonbinary community members brutally murdered in the last year.

If you are interested in sponsoring or supporting this event, or if you want to serve on the planning committee, please reach out to us at trans@sussexpride.org.
