In lieu of our regular monthly meeting, the September Delaware Anti-Violence Project meeting will be a Bystander Intervention and Safety Training.
The workshop will cover topics including situational awareness, de-escalation techniques, and and bystander intervention. Bystander intervention teaches individuals how to safely and effectively intervene in situations where someone might be at risk of harm, such as harassment, violence, or discrimination. It empowers people to recognize potentially harmful situations, assess the risks involved, and take action to prevent or stop the situation from escalating.
The online workshop will be provided by CenterLink, and TAGlobal.
The Delaware Anti-Violence Project works to prevent violence against LGBTQ+ individuals and advocate for survivors in Delaware. This meeting that will take place online . Please register for this meeting at the bottom of this page in order to receive meeting information or email davp@sussexpride.org. If you are currently a member of the google group for the Delaware Anti-Violence Project, you do not need to register.
About the Presenters:
TAL GLOBAL
Mike Keenan is a seasoned security and loss prevention executive with over four decades of experience in both the private sector and federal service. He currently serves as Managing Director of Retail Loss Prevention at TAL Global and as an Adjunct Professor in the Administration of Justice Department at Diablo Valley College. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at GAP Inc., Ross Stores, Macy’s West, and Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay, where he served as President and CEO. A former FBI Support Operations Specialist, Mike holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento, and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), and Loss Prevention Certified (LPC).
CENTERLINK
Tanya Tassi is the Senior Director of Civic Engagement and Education at CenterLink: The Community of LGBTQ Centers, a national nonprofit network of more than 375 LGBTQ centers providing essential services across the country. She has been with CenterLink for eight years, following her work at the Los Angeles LGBT Center in senior services and policy. Tanya served two terms on the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging, where she championed for the unique needs of LGBTQ+ older adults and received the prestigious LINK Award for her outstanding service to the older adult community. She is a volunteer educator with the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and a 15-year member of the national Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, where she trains community members on disaster preparedness efforts and personal safety and security. She holds degrees in criminal justice and health services; and has certifications in gerontology, human rights consulting, reiki, and end-of-life care.
