Planet Fitness in Milford Delaware and nearby businesses in Milford plaza closed and evacuated their buildings following a bomb threat. Milford Police arrived on scene and declared the site safe. They stated on Facebook “This threat was part of a string of bomb threats made to Planet Fitness locations throughout the State.”
Planet Fitness was recently criticized on the social media platform Libs of TikTok because of it’s trans-inclusive policies. Planet Fitness stated in response to a customer complaint: “All members, including transgender members, may use Planet Fitness locker room facilities and programs based on their self-reported gender identity.”
No one has taken responsibility for the most recent bomb threat, so the motive cannot be proven. It is known, however, that similar bomb threats have impacted Planet Fitness Locations in Rhode Island, Mississippi, Michigan, and Connecticut following the Libs of TikTok post.
Threats of violence or actual violence have been documented numerous times following posts on Libs of TikTok. This includes bomb threats, threats of violence against LGBTQ+ people, and at least one mass shooting. It is a pattern that the operator of Libs of TikTok Chaya Raichik, has never denounced.
